Cycling
The Tiekel River Lodge is a perfect hub for both road and mountain cycling, offering breathtaking highway and open wilderness. No matter the size of your tires, you are almost certain to see several types of wildlife, lush forests and amazing mountains.

For the roadie, the Richardson Hwy has a wide shoulder and is considered amongst the most scenic stretches of road in the world. The 30 mile route from the lodge to Thompson Pass will take you below mountain peaks, beside towering glaciers and over raging mountain streams. It is a gradual 2000 foot climb to the pass and a steep decent for those who would like to venture into Valdez. After flying down the mountain, riders get to ride through lush valleys, tight waterfall passes and then follow the vast Lowe River to Prince William sound. Then you get to ride back. The sixty miles to Glennallen is not quite as grueling. Cyclist roll over undulating hills as the Chugach run into the Wrangell St. Elias National Park. Sometimes it is hard to keep your eyes on the road during the decents because the massive Wrangell Mountains are mesmerizing.

For those that prefer the dirt, the lodge is conveniently located one mile below the Great Alaskan Pipeline. The pipeline is mostly buried through the mountains and a rough dirt road is the only evidence of its presence. If that isn’t rough enough, the 59 and 54 mile trails are semi developed climbs up to the 5500 foot, small mountain we have nicknamed “Our Front Door.” The lodge is also conveniently located near Copper Center, the Telegraph Trail and other scenic runs.
